Job Description

This full-time Sign Language Interpreter position supports a 1st grade student in an elementary school setting. The role involves providing communication assistance and interpreting services throughout the school day to facilitate effective learning and engagement for the student.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities
• Assist the 1st grade student with communication in various educational and social settings
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure accessibility and understanding for the student
• Maintain confidentiality and follow professional standards in all interactions
• Adapt interpreting techniques to support the students learning needs

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience interpreting in educational environments
• Previous experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in 1st grade
• Strong understanding of the educational setting and child development
• Ability to work 6-7 hours per day, Monday through Friday
• Reliable, patient, and skilled at multitasking in a dynamic classroom environment

• Tuscaloosa, AL Elementary school setting

This is a contract position covering the normal school year (NSY) schedule.
