Job Purpose:
To provide meaningful and engaging education and/or vocational-based creative arts instruction to individuals with developmental disabilities. The position is responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans in relation to your expertise (i.e. Music/art/drama/ dance/etc.) Assist service users with personal care such as lunch assistance/feeding and restroom assistance as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance of a person-centered and inclusive curriculum that emphasizes and builds on service users strengths and is conducive to growth
Advocate for service users needs, concerns, and desires/support self-advocacy
Represent Able ARTS Work in a professional manner with peers, service users, their caregivers, agencies, other support professionals and the public
Provide creative arts instruction to individuals of all ability levels in a variety of mediums within your expertise (i.e. music, art, drama, dance, etc.)
o Some participants require hand over hand assistance, adaptive equipment, verbal or nonverbal prompts, and redirection to participate
Create individualized goals and objectives in partnership with program manager and team that are incorporated into each individualized service plan (ISP)
Maintain clear and professionally written documentation: lesson plans, achieved class objectives, etc.
Contribute to individualized program plan meetings by documenting service users progress towards goals and objectives and participation in the community
Ensure your classroom is safely set up with appropriate materials needed for instruction
Organize and coordinate community events, performances, exhibits, etc.
Maintain required certifications and trainings (first aid, CPR, sexual harassment, etc.)
Assist service users with wheelchairs, walkers, gait belts, and canes to ensure they are safe whilst moving through program and the community
Assist service users to safely eat lunch
o Some require full assistance to eat (i.e. Spoon feeding)
Assist service users in the restroom as needed
o Some require assistance to use the toilet
o Some require disposable undergarments that need to be changed
Ensure confidentiality is upheld with all information in compliance with HIPAA
Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly in-service
Perform other duties as assigned by program manager
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in relevant field, must submit examples of creative work
- Knowledge of individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
- Technical knowledge of computer, tablet, Microsoft Office
- High-level skills in relevant field (i.e. music, art, drama, dance, etc.)
Travel:
Approximately 20%
-Travel amongst Able ARTS Work facilities in Hawthorne/Long Beach as needed
