Job Description

Opportunity to Lead Highland Health & Social Care Services This is a unique opportunity to lead health and social care services in the Highlands through a period of transformation. Highland HSCP is re-examining its lead-agency model, aligned with national developments aimed at shifting the balance of care and enhancing standards and consistency. Navigating this landscape requires an engaging and inspiring leader who can balance risk with innovation and work in partnership. As Chief Officer, you will address the challenges and opportunities presented by the Highlands' geography and rural nature, including developing a new vaccination delivery model and potential co-location with other agencies. Above all, you will be passionate about improving people's outcomes and experiences of care in the Highlands. You will provide leadership in strategic planning, operational management, and service commissioning across the partnership. You will drive transformational change regionally and locally, collaborating with key colleagues across the health and social care system, NHS Boards, and Integration Joint Boards. This role demands exceptional skills and a strong focus on delivering high standards of health and care. We expect you to be an accomplished and credible leader—someone who naturally engages and can motivate staff to work in innovative and collaborative ways. Resilience in an environment of challenge, uncertainty, and change is essential, as this role offers a platform for innovation and shaping the future. Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record as a strategic leader and senior manager in complex environments, with experience managing large teams and resources. Significant financial management, workforce, strategic planning, risk management, and experience working with inspection agencies are essential. An understanding of market and strategic commissioning approaches is also important. As a compassionate and skilled leader, you will foster a positive environment through shared decision-making and collective leadership, with a passion for professional excellence and high-quality outcomes. The post oversees a budget of approximately £478m and an establishment of 3,691 WTE staff. You will need to combine strategic leadership with effective operational direction, working with multiple agencies to develop a whole-system approach to improving population health, addressing wider determinants of health, and ensuring high-quality services across Highland. This challenging and rewarding role involves regular travel across the Highland landscape to connect with communities. Hybrid working is routine, with expected location at NHS Highland and Council headquarters in Inverness. For more information, visit or contact Amy Billington at Solace in Business on 020 7976 3311 for a confidential discussion. NHS Scotland is committed to equality and diversity, aiming for a workforce that is truly representative and respectful. We welcome applications from all sections of society. #J-18808-Ljbffr NHS National Services Scotland
