About the Payroll Director This is a newly created and highly impactful leadership role within the accounting team. The Payroll Director will play a central part in optimizing the payroll system (UKG), ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payroll for a large, multi-state workforce, and driving compliance with all applicable employment regulations. This role is ideal for a hands-on, strategic thinker who can also manage details and lead process improvements. It’s a unique opportunity to build the payroll function from the ground up within a high-growth organization. What Will the Payroll Director Do Oversee and process payroll for approximately 2,600 employees across multiple states (both hourly and salaried). Configure, optimize, and maintain workflows in the UKG payroll system. Ensure accurate general ledger postings and payroll accounting compliance. Partner closely with HR and general accounting to align payroll operations with broader business processes. Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local wage and hour laws. Implement and maintain strong internal controls over payroll operations. Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy. Support audits and respond to payroll-related inquiries and requests. Ideal Candidate for the Payroll Director Will Have: Requirements: 3–5+ years of hands-on payroll administration experience. Proven expertise with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) system configuration and process optimization. Deep understanding of payroll accounting and multi-state employment/payroll tax regulations. Experience managing high-volume payrolls in dynamic environments. Would Like to Have: Experience with Microsoft Dynamics D365 or other large ERP systems. Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and IT. High attention to detail and accuracy; commitment to maintaining data integrity. Proactive mindset with a continuous improvement orientation. Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Leadership capabilities to guide and develop a growing payroll function.
