Job Description

This is a telecommute position with up to 50% travel for fieldwork projects. The ideal candidate will live in the Southeastern/Southcentral region of the US.

Summary:

The position requires a dynamic individual with a background in environmental science, biology, hydrology, chemistry, or related physical or life sciences. The candidate should be able to work flexible hours (primarily Monday through Friday) and be willing to travel periodically. The role involves active field assignments related to contaminated site characterization, monitoring, remediation, and office work such as preparing planning and reporting documents. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations is required for higher-level positions. The individual should be eager to advance their career and participate in diverse tasks including sampling groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, and air for environmental contaminants; gathering and recording environmental data; overseeing groundwater monitoring well installation; soil borings; using GPS; data tabulation; and preparing work plans and field reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - All Levels:

  1. Conducting contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation assessments safely and according to work plans.
  2. Traveling by aircraft, motor vehicles, ATVs, and watercraft for fieldwork, site visits, or meetings.
  3. Performing field screening and sampling for contaminants and environmental parameters in various media following SOPs, guidance, and regulations.
  4. Documenting field operations with photographs, handwritten notes, forms, and digital devices; communicating with project managers via phone, email, and reports.
  5. Inspecting work progress, equipment, and sites to verify safety and compliance with project specifications.
  6. Scheduling and supervising subcontractors.
  7. Adhering to project schedules and budgets.
  8. Assisting or leading the preparation of proposals, plans, and reports.
  9. Performing other duties as assigned.

Level Specific Responsibilities:

Level II:

  • Providing client support and adhering to project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintaining 1-2 technical expertise areas.
  • Leading project teams in office and field settings.
  • Executing technical tasks and reviewing project documents.
  • Assisting with proposals.
  • Mentoring team members.
  • Fieldwork may constitute 30-50% of time, possibly in remote locations.

Level III:

  • Supporting client relationships and project management.
  • Maintaining 2 technical expertise areas.
  • Leading project teams and technical execution.
  • Assisting with proposals and staffing.
  • Managing smaller projects involving site characterization and monitoring.
  • Fieldwork may constitute 20-40% of time.

Senior Level:

  • Client support and project adherence.
  • Maintaining 2-3 technical expertise areas.
  • Leading technical project execution and review.
  • Preparing proposals.
  • Staffing and mentoring.
  • Managing projects related to site characterization and monitoring.
  • Fieldwork may constitute 10-25% of time.

Minimum Qualifications:

All levels:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences or related field.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases like Access.
  • Ability to explain technical aspects clearly and effectively.

Level II:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience or advanced degree substitution.

Level III:

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience or advanced degree substitution.

Senior:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent qualifications.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in programs like Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, GIS, environmental modeling.
  • ADEC-qualified professional.
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and 8-Hour Refresher.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • Experience with USACE, AFCEC, DoD/Federal projects.
  • Experience in eastern/southeastern US regions.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.
