Greenwood Brewing is a fast-growing microbrewery located in the Roosevelt Row district of Downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Greenwood is seeking a skilled and passionate Brewer who is looking for growth and new opportunities. The ideal candidate is an experienced brewer who can thrive in a hands-on, small production brewery setting with the ability to operate in any position. The person we are looking for is forward-thinking, strategic, and is ready to manage every facet of the brewery; from brewing and kegging, to managing people, to attending distributor meetings, assisting in the development of new products, collaborating and contributing the future direction of the company and growing the business. This person is willing to jump in when something is needed, is approachable for all staff of Greenwood, has excellent communication skills, can understand issues quickly in order to make decisions, and is ready to be a face of the business.
This is a position among senior management team, reporting directly to the Founder & CEO of Greenwood. The position is salaried with bonuses, located in Phoenix, Arizona.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee, execute and manage all phases of the brewing and cellaring processes ensuring high standards of quality and consistency in every batch. This includes but is not limited to brewing, cleaning, keg cleaning, kegging, loading/unloading inbound/outbound trucks, CIP/SIP of all brewing equipment, draft line cleaning, yeast propagation & management
- Operate, maintain and clean brewing equipment, kegging equipment, pumps, glycol systems, and all other equipment in the brewery
- Sufficiently troubleshoots and understands how to properly fix and maintain equipment including basic electric, plumbing, facilities, and maintenance knowledge
- Ensures a safe work environment and conducts quality checks during brewing and packaging
- Recipe and new product development, refining recipes for core and seasonal beers
- Manage production brewing operations including:
- Inventory management of raw materials, chemicals, finished product inventory
- Production schedules, sales data, and forecasts
- Accurate records of brewing operations, ordering, brew logs, inventory data, quality control documentation, SOPs, and preventative maintenance schedules
- All ordering for brewery
- Detailed logs including notes of inconsistencies, record keeping and record maintaining
- Accurate and timely state and federal excise reporting
- Manages people and develops strong communication and relationships with staff
- Manage and train junior brewing staff and assistants
- Manage sales team
- Dotted line managing to taproom staff
- Holds regular meetings with President, Salesperson and Brand Manager to meet all deadlines
- Partners closely with senior leadership to develop actionable, measurable projects that accelerate sales growth, improve sales and marketing effectiveness, and grow ROI
- Coordinates production schedules with President and all necessary parties, further develops metrics, KPIs and insight that drives performance improvement including developing cost of goods analysis, annual budgets and adherence of budgets
- Works closely with Hensley our Distributor and sales team to meet expectations and maintain high quality and shelf life parameters
- Analyzes taproom sales and wholesale sales to understand demand trends that guide decisions on future brews and future goals.
- Leads quarterly staff check-ins as well as performance reviews
- Representation at trade shows, festivals and local beer events
Minimum of 3-5 years of professional brewing experience in a commercial brewery setting
Experience working in production environment with ordering and inventory responsibilities
Strong passion for craft beer and comprehensive understanding of brewing processes and equipment
Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks including must be able to lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs and handle physical demands of brewery labor: standing, squatting, walking, carrying, lifting, seeing and listening
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the mindset to understand big picture
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with other teams
Computer literacy with understanding of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Is willing to learn and continue to strive to be better in the beer industry
