The County of Volusia is seeking a Senior Trades Worker - Operations for the Facility Management Division. This position is located in DeLand, Florida, and will be responsible for skilled journeyman level work in several trades including general construction and maintenance with minimal supervision. Omissions do not exclude duties from the role. ) Perform plumbing repairs, replacements, renovations, and new installations, including fixtures, fittings, and lines. Perform carpentry repairs, replacements, renovations, and new work, including framing, paneling, ceilings, doors, and windows. Perform electrical repairs, replacements, renovations, and new work, including lighting, switches, receptacles, motors, and conduits. Perform masonry repairs, replacements, renovations, and new work, including structures, sidewalks, and drainage. Perform welding and small engine repairs. Perform painting, surface preparation, and scaffolding. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain air conditioning equipment. Work on utility infrastructure at water/wastewater plants, including water main installs, lift stations, and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and structural components. Supervise small crews for construction and maintenance tasks. Operate equipment such as tractors, loaders, excavators, skid loaders, dump trucks, and trailers. Load and unload trailers and materials. Use computers for communication and data entry into the county asset management system. Perform duties of lower-level Trades Worker classifications. Work at various county locations as needed. Attend work regularly and consistently. Follow all applicable laws and respond to emergencies. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, four years of experience in maintenance and repair across various trades, and a valid driver’s license. A Florida Driver’s License must be obtained within 30 days of hire. A valid Florida CDL may be required depending on the role. Equivalent education, training, or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications. The preferred candidate will have four years of HVAC or electrical experience. Additional skills include: Expertise in building trades at the journeyman level. Ability to estimate job costs and materials. Supervisory or training skills for unskilled or semi-skilled personnel. Ability to work under stress and interact effectively with others. Proficiency with maps, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Ability to follow written and oral instructions, perform shop math, and communicate clearly in writing. Willingness to relocate as needed. ADA Requirements: Physical Demands: Ability to see, hear, stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, lift, and carry up to 100 pounds. Ability to work on uneven terrain. Environmental Demands: Work may be outside in various weather conditions, exposure to chemicals, dust, confined spaces, and poor ventilation. Mental Demands: Ability to read and understand work orders, safety instructions, and technical drawings. Skills in shop math and written communication are required.
